Match Report: Mike Lamont (Manager)
Our opening game of the season saw us cruise to a thumping 8-0 victory which was a great start to what we all hope will be a tremendous season. The pre match discussions surrounded us talking about forgetting who the opposition were and concentrate on ensuring we picked up all 3 points.
The first 15 minutes of the game had us pushing forward with countless corners that we failed to attack properly and we will look at that at training this week. However, as the half progressed real chances started to appear with Rudgie, Franco, Nathan, Tom and James all going close. Eventually after 25 minutes we managed to break the deadlock and relax a little as Rudgie bagged a poacher’s finest. Some great defending from Rudgie (were it should always start) gave him another great chance that was well saved by their keeper who was clearly their man of the match.
During all this we still had to defend and all the defenders kept their concentration with some strong challenges from Reece to deny a one off attack on the break, Zack was cutting out the through balls excellently again. With half time approaching Tom took on his man and slotted the ball home well from inside the box to make it 2-0. At this stage we were cruising and should have been more goals up which thankfully we didn’t pay for as we conceded a penalty that cleared the bar without requiring a save from Jake.
By half time the Sky stats had rocketed to a total of 23 chances and were too many to name here !!! But the score remained 2-0 and Zach, Chris and Josh had held firm at the back and did for the rest of the game to ensure the only clean sheet in the division.
One of the best moves of the game saw a great through ball into Rudgie’s feet who turned and laid it of for an excellent 25 yard drive from Bradley just past the post. Bradley was integral again 5 minutes later and a ball into the box bounced off the tall defenders head and sailed over the keeper for 3-0.
Finally we started to play some excellent relaxed and passing football and no-one added more to this than James who Messi like rounded the keeper for 4-0, coolly slotted his second for 5-0 and also made it 6-0 by again showing that if you shoot on target you have a chance of scoring as the keeper should really have got to the last one. However, it was one of the best 20 minute displays I have seen for some time and showed what the score could have been earlier. We were now on a roll and Nathan finished well to make it 7 and Rudgie deserved his 2nd to round off the game at 8-0.
I wont mention that I counted (almost ran out of paper and pen) over 50 chances so Shooting will also feature in the coming weeks on a Wednesday as we will not get this many chances against the better teams through the season.
A great start to the season lads on a pitch that I
feel suits us as our home pitch (despite the parking) and it was great to see
the amount of support that turned out from parents to cheer the lads on to 2nd
in the table ( a costly lesson as 2 more goals would have taken us top) but
overall I was delighted with the progress seen and the attitude of the players
who were all eager to press forward to add to the tally. Great defending at the
back to not concede and thankfully Jake’s sore finger was rarely troubled thanks
to this line in front of him.

Man
of the Match award for a terrific performance and an excellent hat trick goes to James Newall.
