Match Report: Mike Lamont (Manager)

A really convincing victory from all of the players in our third game of the season that I suspect will have put us top of the league (if only Stockport Metro got their Admin in order and produced the League Table!).

The game started with possession straight away and from our first move in the 1st minute Franco played in Nathan down the right who slipped in Rudgie who finished excellently just inside the box with a great strike into the corner. That set the tone of the first 20 minutes and it was pleasing to see that the finishing practiced at training has certainly improved our goals to chances ratio – well done to Jake Francis for his use of “Use your laces” shouts on a regular basis.

Tom had made it 2-0 with a cool finish from just inside the box and with 15 minutes gone the score reached 3-0 following an excellent Franco dribble followed by a great drive that the keeper couldn’t keep out and the rebound found its way to Brandon (who despite his nosebleed – never seen him so high up the pitch!!) he didn’t panic in front of goal and again coolly finished. 5 minutes later Tom again found space out wide on the left and cut inside and produced a great chip over the advancing keeper who was getting frustrated at the quality of our finishing.

Chris and Zach has shored up the defence and Zach was finding more space going forward with Chris sweeping up excellently at the back. David was neat and tidy and kept the ball moving down the left (even managed to get a back flick into the game) and Josh was making excellent use of the ball with good feet, quick mind and precision passes. James and Franco continued to boss midfield and Nathan was always a danger down the right flank.

James went on another of his great runs and as the keeper came out he chipped the ball into an empty net and with just over half an hour played Rudgie finished off a strong first half performance to make it 6-0 by placing the ball with a cool side foot right into the corner. At this stage the opposition keeper had decided that enough was enough and I was really pleased at the attitude of all of the players as at no time did they allow the opposition to rest or allow them to get back into the game or make comment regarding their opponents.

The change of keeper did little to change the outcome and Jake even got in on the act with one of his now legendary “Av its…!!” down the centre of the pitch that bounced and as James took a gamble he found he was clean through and made it 7-0 at the break, an excellent half in the art of finishing your chances.

The second half saw a good number of changes and everyone contributed to a fine display with Ross cool as a cucumber as ever in midfield and a back four that included Reece, Liam and Matt who never put a foot wrong and kept any attacks at bay and kept the play away from Jake who had safe hands all game.

As the half continued Franco sent a curling left foot shot from outside the box into the top corner, one of the best I have seen him score and James finished off the scoring to make it 9-0 and ensured a fine victory with all the players making a full contribution. One player who went on into a fairly new position I felt really contributed to some good second half passing in the middle of the park and for his strong defending and excellent link play Man Of the Match goes to someone who really stepped up to take his chance - Josh Kay, well down Josh.

Well done again guys, see you all on Wednesday- Mike
