Latest news and team updates
Well what a
performance in the Cup game against Hillgate Boys on Sunday!
After so many postponements of this game we finally got it on.
Coming back 3 times to win the game was a superb achievement. This is a Division 1 team we beat after all.
We now progress into the quarter finals - well done all the squad.

27th December 2011
Good evening
everyone, hope you all had a good Christmas. We have updated the fixtures list
with our recent postponed games
added in March (Except for the Bramhall game which I cant see on the Metro
league?!)
Our next
game is on Sunday 8th January 2012, at Home against Hillgate boys in the second
round of the cup.
Hillgate are first division but we did expect this as we have seen off our
relevant division challenges!
We can beat
this side, or any side if we are on our game, defence nice and tight and balls
getting to our strikers will always mean chances and goals
so lets go into this with our "we can win attitude" we have maintained so far
this season.
Hopefully if this mild weather spell continues we should have no more postponed
games with any luck.
All the best from everyone at the club for your New year celebrations and we are back at training on Wednesday 4th Jan 2012.
Happy new year! - Rob

Our last training day of this year is Wednesday 21st, So I would like to wish everyone and Happy Christmas and great New year.

All the best - Rob

Just want to confirm the details for a small get together at the Foresters Arms (The Piggy) in Greave. All the lads are invited and parents as well to celebrate a great start to this season and have a Christmas drink together. I have booked it between 7 - 9 pm and the Curry will be paid for the lads out of Club Funds.
The cost for adults is £6 per head and because of the time of year etc I need to confirm numbers as soon possible. Could you please let me know which lads are coming and who cannot make it and for parents if you could let me have the £6 cash per adult by training next Wednesday on 14th December 2011 that would be great.
In terms of the next couple of weeks I fear that some of the games on a Sunday may fall foul of the weather (Will let you know as early as I can if they are called off) but we will be training on Wednesday 21st December and returning on Wednesday 4th January.
Hope to see as many of you as can make it on the 22nd.
Cheers Mike

4th November 2011
First of all well done to the lads for the win
against Chapel Town last Sunday, sounds like we made hard work of it but got
there in the end.
Great win even with a couple of key players missing so fantastic to keep our
unbeaten run going.
Thanks to Rob Slater for stepping up to do us a match report and once again Dave and Howard at the helm while Mike was still on holiday.
This coming Sunday 6th November we are away to
Stockport Junior blues which I think will be one of our toughest games, so lets
hope
the lads are well up for this one. Mike will text through the squad at some
point today.
Also this Sunday we have 3 Man of the match awards
to catch up with so medals will be handed out before the game.
Next Wednesday as things are back to normal, Man of the match for the Stockport
junior blues game will be handed out then as usual.
Just to recap, Franco - Hazel grove cup game. Nathan - Hale match and Ross for the Chapel town game.
See you all on Sunday - Rob

Another superb performance from all the lads on
Sunday against Hale United, probably the best team performance of the season so
far.
Match report is now posted up for you to read.
We are now played 6, Won 6 so lets keep it going, other teams must cringe when they see our stats in the league so far!
This Sunday we are away to Chapel Town. Lyn will be
sending the squad details via text message by Friday.
Mike and Jake are still away on holiday so Dave and Howard will be at the helm
again for this one.
Franco and Nathan are on holiday and I might be away too, so we will need someone to jot
a quick match report together, stats of the game,
goals and goal scorers, and Man of the match please.. any takers? Please let me
know Click here >>
If I don't see you weekend, have a great game.
Lastly, Man of the match medals will be awarded next week when everyone is back,
there should be 3 to be handed out by then so please don't think we have forgot
about you.
Cheers everyone - Rob

This Sunday 16th October we have our first game in
the cup. A tough one against Hazel Grove who are a division above us.

good game.

Woodley Albion U14 Squad Season 2011 -2012
As we are now 4 games into the new season I just wanted to give you an update on where we are as a team, the squad and what the plans are over the next couple of weeks.
Firstly, just to say a massive
thank you to everyone for their support in moving the team forward. Rob for
setting up a fantastic website and Dave for taking some fantastic photos that
the lads seem to enjoy looking back on. I would also like to thank all our
sponsors and for those signed at the beginning of the season their own Woodley
Rain Jacket should be with us over the next couple of weeks.
Phil and Deb for the half time Jaffa cakes and Drinks a big thank you also. Also
to the team of roadies who put up the nets and the respect banner and for all
the parents who have supported the team so well this season.
I would also like to thank the
players who have helped in generating great interest in a Division 4 side.
Behind the scenes I have declined various new players from joining us which
shows the interest out there but having invited a few new faces along they have
shown the commitment and have joined the squad.
Lyn has now taken up the role as
our official Fixture and Admin Secretary which is a big commitment believe me.
She will be liaising with the opposition manager, the referee and the league
about the fixture and players available.
From next week Lyn will be texting parents on a Wednesday the lads availability
for the Sunday and I will announce the squad by the latest Friday.
After the Hale game where we had
12 players, 3 of which were injured and shouldn’t really have started I decided
to think about the numbers in the squad. I am also acutely aware of the number
of niggling injuries that the lads are picking up at this age and the number of
times I have been asked by the players to only play 1 half or come off has
actually shocked me! I could not take the risk that this would be repeated in
the “darker” depths of winter only having the bare 11 and so the result is that
the squad is now full at 19 registered players.
This is following me taking the decision to add 2 new players to the squad and
they join this week formally, welcome to Danny and to Louis who come with great
excitement from Junior Blues, they are great additions to the Team.
Bradley is suffering quite badly at the moment with his knees and I hope he has
a speedy recovery but that still leaves us heavy for match days.
Training has improved and with us able to practice 9 a-side games this will improve everyone in the squad as we are learning new skills, new positions and new techniques week in week out.
However, for match days I am
only allowed under Rule 8 of the Metro League to name 5 substitutes before the
game.
I hope that you have seen this year that I intend to use the whole squad in the
majority of matches and give every player as much time on the pitch as I can.
This is something I am monitoring weekly and will continue to do so going
forward.
So, for future matches my selection for the 16 man squad will be based on –
Performance - Training - Attitude - Development - Fairness
In order to ensure that everyone
(including parents) can either take a weekend off for family reasons, injury,
Premiership games, other activities etc the squad I announce by the latest
Friday will be rotated for the 3 eligible players who cannot be named as a
substitute on the Sunday. As we enter the winter I am almost sure that week in
week out we will have players missing for the above reasons in any case but I
wanted everyone to be clear about my intentions.
The Standing Order monthly ensures that no-one has committed a large signing on
fee like other local clubs but again this was never the intention more to commit
the lads to ensuring our future at Woodley Sports. The squad has not been built
to look at forcing people away, far from it as I fully expect all 19 players to
enter the 3rd Division next season after winning the 4th
as more advanced and developed footballers.
I will be available after training on Wednesday to discuss with any parents any concerns they have or indeed on my mobile 07799868145 if they want to chat in private about this.
Best Intentions at all times.
Mike and the Coaching Team, (Jake and Matt)

WEDNESDAY 7th SEPTEMBER: FRIENDLY AGAINST HAZEL GROVE UNITED - MATCH REPORT
Our final friendly of the close season saw a well
deserved victory over Hazel Grove. It proved a great warm up for the opening
game of the season in very poor wet and windy conditions. A great turn out with
16 players all eager to get a piece of the action. The early tempo was a bit
slow and Grove had the better of early exchanges but Zach and Brandon commanded
the edge of the box. As we came more into the game and started to work the ball
better through midfield chances started to appear for Rudgie, Nathan and Tom.
Mid way through the first half Franco stung the keeper’s hands pushing a sharp
free kick over the bar from 20 yards out. Grove took the lead midway through the
first half but it was great to hear positive encouragement from the team, a
heads up attitude and they were soon back into the game.
Soon after Nathan took on his defender well and a cross shot flashed across the
box to be narrowly missed on the far post by Tom who had done well to get deep
into the box. Chances started to flow as we pushed into their half and when
Nathan played Rudgie into the box with a great pass he was brought down by the
defender and Will stepped up coolly with an excellent penalty slotted to the
keepers left.
Following the break we took control of the game
which started right from the back with Josh and Reece and Matt all contributing
to a solid half. When Franco played a ball through to Nathan on the edge of the
box he struck a great shot that the keeper blocked and he coolly slotted home
the rebound. Soon after and proving that you can’t win the lottery if you don’t
buy a ticket, Andy hit a shot goal bound that took a deflection and an awkward
bounce and ended up in the net following a typical goal kick from Jake deep into
the opposition half.
Overall a great 3-1 win and sets us up nicely for the start of the season. -
Mike Lamont
(Manager)

Man
of the Match award for a solid performance at the back goes to Zac Khan.

SUNDAY 4th SEPTEMBER: FRIENDLY AGAINST REDDISH NORTH END - MATCH REPORT

Our
first friendly saw us take on a strong team from Reddish NE on Sunday. It was
great to see a full turnout and everyone performed well despite our 2-0 defeat.
The first half was defensively strong with a great back 4 line starting to
develop and Ross was solid just sitting in front. Chris started very well on the
left and kept a busy winger quiet for most of the game. Some early possession
for the opposition was soaked up well and I was glad to see defenders following
what we have discussed over the past few weeks. Franco and Matthew held the
middle of the pitch well and I felt we had the beating of them in this area with
some good passing between these guys. One area we need to see more of is those
killer passes to release Rudgie to do what we know he does for his supper! The
half lacked clear cut chances but following a series of corners Reddish took the
lead with 5 minutes to go after a scene from Fred Carno's circus the ball
bobbled off a few feet (knew I wouldn’t mention it Tom) and rolled into the net
passed a helpless Jake.
I made 3 changes at half time that saw all players play at least a half and we started the second half a bit stronger with more possession. The best chance we had fell to Franco who cut inside 2 defenders cross shot the keeper but it summed up our day as the ball hit the far post rolled across the line and out for a goal kick. Nathan cut in well in the second half but we lacked a bit of support for Rudgie in the box and we will work on this as the season progresses. A good passage of play saw Rudgie clean through to be blocked at the last minute by a last ditch tackle. With the game deep into the final quarter a quick throw in fell to a centre forward to hit a strong shot into the corner to make it 2-0.

The
really pleasing thing for me was the amount of positive talking I heard from the
lads who are communicating so much better on the pitch and finding their feet in
some new positions. Despite the result a good start and we take on Hazel Grove
on Wednesday in preparation for the big start on Sunday. Thanks lads some good
signs of things to come. - Mike Lamont (Manager)

Man of the match award - Jake (Goalkeeper)

Q: Can anyone shed some light as to why we have been placed
in the FOURTH division by the Stockport Metro League after a top 6 finish last
season? This is not the first time we have had issues with the way the Metro
league
conduct themselves with fixtures, results and end of season positioning!
